What does Stripe Invoicing cost a tutoring business?
Stripe Invoicing adds an invoice fee to the payment processing charge. According to Stripe’s pricing page, Starter costs 0.4% per paid invoice and Plus costs 0.5% as of 21 October 2026. Plus adds quotes. For an academy sending tuition invoices, compare the combined cost of invoicing and the payment method families actually use, rather than budgeting from the invoice percentage alone.
Choose Plus when you need its additional features, such as quotes. Starter already includes a hosted invoice page, a customer portal, automatic collection and auto-reconciliation for invoices paid by ACH credit or wire transfer, according to Stripe’s Invoicing pricing page. Does Stripe send invoices and reminders automatically?
Stripe includes automatic email reminders and smart retries in both Invoicing tiers, according to its pricing page as of 21 October 2026. Recurring invoice creation is a separate question from reminding a parent about an existing invoice. If your goal is to create tuition invoices on a fixed schedule, Stripe Billing is the recurring subscription product described in Stripe’s pricing.
Before you rely on automation, decide what should happen at each stage:
- Establish the tuition amount and whether the charge stays fixed or depends on delivered classes.
- Create the invoice through the workflow you have chosen, checking the family, currency and amount.
- Use the appropriate collection settings, then check outstanding balances when reminders or retries do not produce payment.

What do parents see on hosted invoice pages, and when do links expire?
Stripe’s hosted invoice page lets parents see invoice status, pay with an enabled payment method and download PDF copies of the invoice and receipt. According to Stripe’s documentation as of 21 October 2026, you can customize the color, logo and icon. The payment choices depend on the methods enabled for your account, so check the actual page before promising a particular method.
Stripe’s hosted invoice URLs expire 30 days after the due date. If an invoice has no due date, the URL expires 30 days after finalization. The documentation also sets a maximum of 120 days. Treat an old payment link as something to check before sending another overdue notice.
Should you use Stripe Invoicing or Stripe Billing for monthly tuition?
Stripe Invoicing fits invoice-based collection, while Stripe Billing covers recurring subscriptions. According to Stripe’s US pricing page as of 21 October 2026, Billing costs 0.7% of Billing volume on its pay-as-you-go plan, excluding one-off invoices. Choose based on how you calculate tuition: a repeating fixed charge and a bill calculated from class outcomes require different administrative work.
For fixed monthly tuition, a recurring schedule can save you from recreating the same charge. Stripe Billing is worth considering when the amount and collection pattern repeat. You still need a process for changes to a family’s arrangement, rather than assuming last month’s amount remains correct.
For tuition based on completed classes or other recorded outcomes, establish the billable amount before collection. Stripe’s payment page handles payment; the academy still needs a trustworthy basis for the tuition charge. Keep a clear boundary between calculating what is owed and collecting what is owed.
What are the fees for international families?
Stripe’s processing fees depend on the academy’s account country, the card’s origin and whether conversion is needed. As of 21 October 2026, Stripe’s US pricing adds 1.5% for international cards and 1% for conversion. Stripe’s UK pricing lists international cards at 3.15% + 20 pence, with another 2% for conversion. The examples below add Invoicing Starter separately.

The US ACH row uses ACH Direct Debit, not a card or wire transfer. The UK domestic row uses a standard UK card; Stripe lists premium UK cards separately at 2.8% + 20 pence and EEA cards at 2.5% + 20 pence, before the invoice fee.
Where is Stripe unavailable for academy accounts?
Stripe’s supported-country list does not include Pakistan, Egypt, Bangladesh or Saudi Arabia as of 21 October 2026. Check availability for the academy opening the account before designing your tuition collection process around Stripe. A parent’s location and the academy’s account availability are different questions; a family abroad does not establish that your academy can open a Stripe account.
What happens when a parent disputes a Stripe invoice payment?
Stripe’s pricing pages list dispute charges separately from normal payment and invoice fees. As of 21 October 2026, the US dispute received fee is USD 15, with an additional USD 15 counter fee refunded if you win. Stripe’s UK pricing lists GBP 20 for each corresponding charge. Budget for disputes separately rather than treating routine processing fees as the full possible cost.
Keep the invoice, agreed tuition terms and relevant class records together. Those records help you explain the charge when a parent questions a payment.
