As of October 2026, Pakistan-based academies cannot open PayPal, Stripe, Wise (wise.com) balances or Mercury accounts. Receive overseas tuition through Payoneer with JazzCash withdrawals or parent-sent Wise (wise.com) transfers into personal PKR accounts, subject to fees, eligibility and limits.
Which payment platforms can’t Pakistan-based academies use?
Pakistan-based academies cannot treat a parent’s access to a payment service as proof that the academy can open an account. As of 21 October 2026, Pakistan is absent from PayPal’s supported-market list, Stripe’s supported-country list and Wise (wise.com)‘s balance-country list. Receiving a transfer sent through a provider is a different question from holding an account with that provider.
PayPal’s list does not explicitly say “Pakistan is unavailable.” The supported-market list omits Pakistan. That distinction matters when explaining the restriction to a family who already uses PayPal elsewhere.
Stripe’s list also excludes Pakistan. A supported-country entity is typically needed, but company formation should not be your starting assumption. Check the provider’s eligibility requirements against your actual residence and operations before paying for setup.
Wise (wise.com) also says a Pakistan address cannot obtain USD account details, as of 21 October 2026. That restriction includes Wise Business US entities with an address in Pakistan. A US registration does not by itself establish eligibility for USD details.
Can I open a Mercury account from Pakistan?
Mercury says it cannot open accounts for founders living in, or businesses operating in, Pakistan, as of 21 October 2026. The restriction concerns where the founder lives and where the business operates, rather than citizenship. A US LLC does not remove a Pakistan residence restriction. Do not budget for Mercury on the assumption that incorporating abroad solves eligibility.
Read the residence and operations conditions before discussing incorporation with a service provider. Separate company formation from account approval: paying for a company does not establish that Mercury can accept your application.
A Pakistani citizen living elsewhere raises a different eligibility question from a founder living in Pakistan. The published restriction should not be rewritten as a citizenship ban. Our guide to Mercury eligibility for non-US academies explains why these distinctions matter.
How does Payoneer with JazzCash work, and what does it cost?
Payoneer with JazzCash is a route to assess when you need a receiving account and a local wallet withdrawal. According to JazzCash, as of 21 October 2026, users can create or link a Payoneer account inside the JazzCash app. JazzCash says withdrawals carry no JazzCash charge, while Payoneer’s standard 3% withdrawal fee applies. Receiving money can involve separate charges.
According to Payoneer’s pricing page, as of 21 October 2026, the listed receiving charges are:
- Local-currency receiving account: free.
- Non-local-currency receiving account: 1%, with a USD 1.00 minimum.
- Payer credit card: up to 3.99% plus USD 0.49.
Payoneer also lists a USD 29.95 annual fee when receipts are below USD 6,000 in 12 months. Check the receiving method rather than combining all listed receiving fees as though every payment incurs them.
JazzCash lists a USD 5 minimum withdrawal. For its Freelance Digital Account, JazzCash lists PKR 1,400,000 in monthly credits and a PKR 3,000,000 maximum balance, as of 21 October 2026. A transfer that fits the balance limit can still encounter the monthly credit limit.
Before asking a family to pay, confirm that the proposed tuition transaction is eligible for the receiving method and your account. Give the family the exact payment instructions. Save the receiving transaction and withdrawal records separately so you can see where each charge arose.
Can a parent send a Wise transfer to a Pakistani bank account?
A parent can use Wise (wise.com) to send PKR into a personal Pakistani bank account without the recipient holding a Wise balance. According to its PKR transfer guide, as of 21 October 2026, Wise does not send PKR to business accounts or Meezan and Allied Express accounts. The recipient needs a 24-character IBAN beginning PK, and the limit is PKR 35,000,000 per transfer.
A direct transfer is worth assessing when a family can use Wise (wise.com) and you have an eligible recipient account. The route avoids the Payoneer-to-JazzCash withdrawal step. A Payoneer receiving method may suit a family whose preferred payment method fits that service’s eligibility rules instead.
Ask the parent to inspect the transfer quote and recipient amount before sending. No universal Wise transfer fee or Pakistani bank charge is established by the supplied facts. Do not promise that the route is free or that the invoice amount will arrive unchanged.
Personal-account support is a provider rule, not confirmation that a personal account suits your academy’s income. Ask a local accountant about tax and compliance implications before using a personal account. This is general information, not legal or tax advice; check with an adviser in your country.
Which payment routes are available to Pakistan residents?
Payment routes differ in account eligibility, receiving method and withdrawal cost. The table summarizes provider statements as of 21 October 2026 for a Pakistan-resident academy. Read unavailable services as account restrictions, and available routes as options requiring eligibility checks. An overseas parent’s ability to send money does not establish your ability to open a merchant account with the same provider.
| Route | Available to Pakistan residents? (source) | How the parent pays | Fees to academy (USD / %) | Limits (PKR / USD) | Key caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PayPal | Pakistan absent from supported markets | No supported local account route | Not applicable | Not applicable | Parent access does not establish recipient eligibility |
| Stripe | Pakistan absent from supported countries | No supported Pakistan merchant account route | Not applicable | Not applicable | Foreign incorporation alone is not an approval guarantee |
| Wise (wise.com) balance / USD details | No Pakistan balance eligibility or USD details | No Pakistan-address balance route | Not applicable | Not applicable | Parent-sent PKR transfers are a separate route |
| Mercury with a US LLC | No under residence and operations rules | No eligible account under these conditions | Not applicable | Not applicable | A US LLC does not remove the restriction |
| Payoneer + JazzCash | JazzCash describes account linking and withdrawals | Eligible receiving method or card payment | Receiving fees vary; withdrawal 3%; JazzCash charge zero | USD 5 withdrawal minimum; Freelance Digital Account PKR 1,400,000 monthly credits, PKR 3,000,000 balance | Check transaction eligibility and separate fee stages |
| Parent-sent Wise (wise.com) transfer | Yes, to an eligible personal PKR account | Parent arranges a PKR transfer | Check quote and bank charges; no universal amount established | PKR 35,000,000 per transfer; 24-character IBAN | Business accounts and specified Express accounts excluded |
Should local and overseas families have different tuition prices?
Separate local and overseas price lists are a practical option when families pay through different routes and in different currencies. As of 21 October 2026, Muallim-ul-Quran’s individual course page lists one-to-one, 30-minute classes, 3 times per week, at PKR 9,000 or USD 65 per month. That is a published example of separate prices, rather than an exchange-rate calculation.
Do not use another academy’s prices as proof of your costs or as a required market rate. Decide what you charge after reviewing your teaching costs, expected receiving charges and withdrawal route. Compare like-for-like class duration and frequency before drawing conclusions from a price list.
State the invoice currency and expected payment amount clearly. Tell families how to handle a payment that would arrive short after fees. Agree on the amount before payment rather than discovering a disagreement when you match the bank entry to the invoice.
Keep collection costs separate from the teacher-pay budget. Planning payments to teachers in Pakistan, Egypt and Bangladesh is a separate task from choosing how overseas parents send tuition.
How do I keep records when payments arrive by several routes?
Payment records should let you trace each family invoice to the money received, even when the payer’s name differs from the student’s name. Keep invoice currency, receiving currency, provider references and fees visible. A payment message from a parent is useful evidence, but confirm the received transaction before treating the invoice as paid. Investigate differences instead of hiding them inside a balance adjustment.
- Put a clear invoice reference in the payment instructions and ask the family to include the reference where the route allows.
- Save the provider transaction reference, payer name, date, original amount and currency alongside the invoice.
- Record receiving fees, withdrawal fees and net funds separately, using the actual transaction records.
- Match the receipt to the family invoice, and investigate short payments or unclear references before closing the balance.
A withdrawal from Payoneer to JazzCash moves funds already received. Keep the withdrawal linked to the earlier receipt so you do not count the same tuition again. Our guide to payment reconciliation for academies covers matching receipts to invoices.
How Halqora handles this
Halqora is management software for online academies. An admin can record a received payment against an invoice and track the remaining balance per family, whatever route the money takes. Billing runs create draft invoices for an admin to review and send. Halqora does not make PayPal, Stripe or Mercury available to a Pakistan-based academy, and manual payment records do not imply a Payoneer or JazzCash connection. See payment tracking across providers for how invoice records and received payments fit together.
